Madison Parish 4-H Launches Exciting Embryology Project

Madison Parish 4-H recently kicked off its annual Embryology Project on February 18, setting up two incubators to give students a hands-on experience in observing the development of chicks. One incubator is located at Madison High School in Ms. Hicks’ 3rd period class, while the second is at Wright Elementary School in Mrs. Nash’s 5th-grade class.
This project allows students to witness the fascinating process of life from the moment of incubation through hatching, combining science learning with real-world application.
Ms. Andrea Jinks, Madison Parish 4-H Coordinator, emphasized the educational value of the project:
"This program is designed to engage students in science in a fun and interactive way. Watching life develop day by day sparks curiosity and teaches responsibility and care for living things."
Students shared their excitement about the project. One Madison High School scholar remarked, "I can’t wait to see the chicks hatch! It’s amazing to see science come alive right in our classroom." A Wright Elementary student added, "I never knew how much work goes into taking care of eggs! I’m learning so much and it’s really fun."
The initiative was made possible through the collaboration with Mrs. Denise Guyenski of Morehouse Parish, who has helped introduce and expand the embryology program across Northeast Louisiana. Her expertise has been instrumental in providing teachers and students the resources and guidance needed to make the project successful.
By bringing this hands-on learning experience to both elementary and high school students, Madison Parish 4-H continues to inspire young minds to explore science, agriculture, and life sciences in meaningful ways.
"It’s incredible to watch students’ curiosity grow," Ms. Jinks added. "This project is more than just eggs in an incubator—it’s about nurturing a love for learning and discovery."
